Definitely struck a chord with me on some of those points.

The social bookmarking one made me smile, as have just implemented something similar on my blog. Up untill that point I had not realised the sheer number of "facebook" bandwagoneers!

My view is that there are only five or six bookmarking / social media services you want to use, there the big ones and the ones which everyone will have some form of access to - unless your a very particular niche!

Loved the comment re automated comments, I get a lot, interestingly, a lot of Russian ones!!! It does amuse me though how they try to be as generic as possible to get past moderation ;-)

Keep up the good work.

Thanks for taking the time to provide such a well thought-out comment, and for covering all of the bases. A rare skill these days ;-) Good luck to you, and thanks for stopping by!

I agree with you on the automated friend finder. Just because you have 70,000 followers means nothing if you're also following 70,000. The ratio is a little more important. If you have 70,000 followers and follow 1,000, then I'll take you more seriously.

Good point about the social bookmarking. I've given 10 sharing options on my personal blog via Share This. I just realized I haven't even set it up on my company blog! lol Time to make a few changes.

As for automated comments, I never, ever use them. It doesn't take that much time to make a thoughtful comment, but to do that, you actually have to read the post.

I don't have an issue with affiliate links at all, but I would ask site owners to make sure they're relate to the site content and that they fit into the design of the site.

I ignore so much advertising just because it's not related to the site content at all. There's an opportunity there.

Thanks for this great information. I do so agree with it. After an 8 years break from the net trying to build up our self-sufficiency farm in Spain/Europe, the financial crisis hit Spain harder than most other countries, so we had to go back to work again. And what do I find on our "beloved" net? - You could put my sentiments into words.
My website and my blogs are not quite finished yet, I´m still trying and trying to get into the "swing", but it's hard. Your articles helped me a lot, thank you again for them! Greetings from across the big pond! Antje
